upon arrival in Iceland, where all the photographs were taken. It hints at an essence common to and connected with all things on Earth, and life itself.Its main subject – water in various formations – manifests everywhere at the same time. Its ethereal nature closely reflects and corresponds to the transitions of the human mind – whether on personal or collective level – thus rendering our deep unconscious visible. This realisation and the awe inspired by my surroundings heightened my awareness of the present, overspilling time and space and leading me to a blissful nothing: a mirroring state – a meditation on a half-forgotten world – the primordial miracle – being(s) human and otherwise – the sense state before time, before birth. Jung, Red Book The name Overself came to me spontaneously when, wandering alone, I emerged from a storm into an unknown mountainous landscape. Relying only on my own senses, which were tuned to the maximum in the unpredictable environment, I discovered that there is another “sense” that encompasses and transcends them all – some might call it a guardian, a higher self, a god or perhaps a soul. I later found out that the term was coined by the British mystic Paul Brunton (1898-1981) who wrote several books on the subject. We can sometimes glimpse it briefly, perhaps in moments of bliss or when a mysterious unknown force pulls us away from danger. It’s quiet and elusive, impossible to describe in words, but its presence and transformative power can be strongly felt. We’re John Pridmore fighting Satan, we’re Fritz Pearls fighting Freud, we’re Ayn Rand fighting the altruists, we’re John Vasconcellos fighting the media cynics, we’re Dan Faber fighting to one day dig the iron out of asteroids. She graduated from the Studio of Intermedia at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno and currently lives in London, UK. Her images, deliberately crafted in a slow manner, are often presented as diaries of places, atmospheres and alien landscapes full of symbols. She was one of the winners of the British Journal of Photography Female in Focus Award (Single Image Category) and was selected as one of the 30 Under 30 Women Photographers by Artpil. Amongst others, her work was projected at the Uniqlo Tate Lates at Tate Modern in London, and shown at the FORMAT Photography Festival in Derby, the National Museum in Prague and the DOX Center for Contemporary Art in Prague.
